GROWING SINCE 1932
Founded in 1932, the Carlsbad Garden Club Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization composed of local residents with interests in gardening and horticulture. We are dedicated to community improvement, education, and charitable work. We meet from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the first Friday of the month, except where noted on our calendar, in the Gowland room of the Carlsbad Dove Library, 1775 Dove Lane Carlsbad, California 92011-4048.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We aim to advance the knowledge, enjoyment, science, and practice of gardening in the Carlsbad community. This includes, but is not limited to: education; events; providing scholarships and financial assistance for instruction and public education relevant to gardening; and such other activities as approved by the Board of Directors and the membership.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Julie Adamik, Club President
A special “thank you” to all our Club members who have given me the opportunity to serve as your president again for the 2022 – 2023 year. This is going to be an exciting year for our Club as we begin our 90 th year. That’s right, our Club is 90 years old! During the 2022 – 2023 year you’ll continue to see many of our favorite activities plus some new, fun events! We’ve come a long way since 1932 and I’m looking forward to sharing exciting and educational activities with you this year.
I joined this wonderful organization just a few short years ago with absolutely no idea how to grow anything. Seriously…not a thing! Now, I stare in amazement every time I walk out into my garden and see all the lovely flowers growing there (especially the roses!) I can hardly believe that I grew these. Me! My Mom would be so proud. She loved to grow flowers. When I was a busy corporate executive, she would always say to me, “Julie, you need to slow down. Stop and smell the roses.”
Done, Mom!

Our garden club isn’t just about the plants and flowers. It’s also about the intangible rewards and joy
that comes from being a part of such a delightful group of men and women who share an interest in being good stewards of the land—at least our little piece of it!
A club isn’t sustainable without its members and their dedication to volunteering time to help with
events throughout the year. I hope you will consider giving back through participating on one of our teams. There’s something for everyone—whether you can only commit a couple of hours to those who want to lead a team—and everything in between!

“The beauty of a garden benefits not only the gardener but also the well-being of those who look upon it!”

OUR SCHOLARSHIPS
About 50 years ago, in the early 1970’s, a group of Carlsbad Garden Club members decided that the Club’s philanthropy would be to provide scholarship money to college students studying horticulture. Today, we raise money to provide scholarships to students enrolled in Mira Costa College’s Horticulture
program. Students in this field study the art and science of cultivating plants. the curriculum also includes the study of the design, installation, and maintenance of landscape, crop production, and wine technology.
In late August of 2022, Julie Adamik and I attended an awards program at MiraCosta College. We learned that through providing scholarships, students’ financial barriers can be substantially lightened. While talking with one scholarship recipient, I learned that she was attending Mira Costa classes while holding down two jobs. She also shared with me that she is a first-generation college student in her family. I was humbled to hear her story and see her determined look to fulfill her dreams of earning a college degree.
Raising money for scholarships is a wonderful way to assist students in need so
that they can have a more successful future!
